On 16-17 January 2020, the 21 dental specialist from ‘Kindness in Action’ and ‘Dental Bears Necessity’ from 3 countries (Canada, Switzerland, and France) voluntarily conducted dental health service to DIU students. This program was brought to Dewey International University by our local partner, Initiative of Change Association.
These voluntary dentists travelled a long way to Cambodia bringing dental equipment along with them to do 3 types of treatments: filling, extracting, and cleaning. Some students had volunteered to assist them in setting up the equipment, in the 2-day operation, and in translation.
Within 2-days, 166 students, some came from other schools, received treatment from this program. It is very surprising that, according to them, the highest number of treatment they did was 120 people per day.
DIU students who have volunteered in this program learnt a lot. They communicated in English with foreigners that have different cultures and values; they experienced in oral translation for Cambodian students and vice versa; they can observe and practice working as a team with foreigners; they learnt technical words of the dental etc.. Students may also maintain long lasting relationships with these voluntary dentist.
The management team, staff and students of Dewey International University expressed a heartfelt thanks to Initiative of Change Association, the delegations from Kindness in Action and Dental Bears Necessity for spending their valuable time providing free dental health services to the students.
