John Zepp was nearing completion of his Ph.D. in chemistry when he developed skin cancer and died about one year later. Before his death, he asked that a Foundation be set up to aid unfortunate children. It is in the remembrance of John Zepp, therefore, that the Fund is offering scholarships to deserving young people to attend Dewey International University in Battambang, Cambodia.
Scholarships are for the following types of study:
1. Employment-oriented Diploma Courses beginning Feb. 24, 2010.
Same conditions as for Foundation Year. Since diploma courses will begin in February, 2010, there will be many scholarships for the first terms or first year. However, when Foundation Year courses begin in October, 2010, priority will be given to Foundation Year scholarships, so that there will be only a few Diploma scholarships available after October, 2010.
2. Foundation Year (Year I) courses at DIU beginning October, 2010
Full-time study. A full-time program normally costs $100 per term, or 360 for the entire 4-term year of study. A student on scholarship would pay half this amount, that is, $50 per term or $180 per year.
Priority will be given to the following subjects, in the order listed below:

  • Community Education
  • Community Development
  • Public Health
  • Accounting and Microfinance
  • Small Business Management Marketing
  • English as a Second Language
  • Finance and Banking
  • Environmental Science

The scholarships are for 50% of total tuition. The amounts offered (or remaining to pay) are:
  • Part-time courses: $20 per course of 12 weeks
  • Term Full-time student $55 per 3-course term of 12 weeks
  • Yearly Full-time student $220 per 4-term year of 12 courses

Courses will be offered in the Khmer language, but many will be taught by foreign experts with Khmer translators. Ability to read English will be an advantage.
